This painting, along with Fishermans Wharf and the Mission at Carmel, was completed by the artist in 1948 on the West Coast. The sunny slopes of the town of Avalon form a picturesque background for the colourful musicians on the wharf. They greet the incoming steamers with haunting melodies and flashing Spanish smiles.
